Greetings 2022…

I was hoping you’d better than 2021, but…

This was to be posted during early January 2022. And here we are, at the end of March as I typing this, and it’s still not live.

Where has this year gone. Looking at the year so far, 2022, I doubt we can be friends.

2021

I had plans to travel to the Daintree Rainforest region of Queensland last year. Sadly, the Delta strain of COVID started to gain a foothold, so that plan was postponed until this year. Here’s hoping.

I acquired a new camera (a Canon 5D Mk IV - haven’t yet jumped into the mirrorless camera world). I found time to play with the new camera in the backyard, taking a few photos of the birds.

One of the photo’s from my backyard.

The upside to 2021 - I managed to triple the sales of my calendars last year, selling a grand total of 3. Hopefully I can achieve that level of growth again this year.

I did complete one task I had been wanting to do for some time during 2021. It was an eye opener. Also a little nerve wracking - it could have turned into a pricey venture.

Dust. Dust. Glorious dust…

Over the Christmas/New Year holiday I bit the bullet and decided to open my iMac to clean out the dust and upgrade the hard drive to an SSD. I wasn’t expecting the inside of the system to be pristine after 4+ years of use; however, the amount of dust I found was concerning…

User access where for art thou user access. Looking down into the shell of the iMac. Yes, it was a poor quality photo - I was more interested in actually servicing the computer, not make a video/blog about how to service an iMac.

At least there is what appears to be some sort of dust filter - the grid looking thingy. Basically clogged with dust and dirt. And to be able to clean it out it requires a near complete disassembly of the iMac.

For those not familiar with how involved this process was, search Youtube, or go to iFixit, and look at teardowns of a 2017 iMac. The glass panel of the front is not held in place with clips, or screws. It’s held in place with glue.

Apple really should have designed in user serviceability - even if it was just for the dust filter.

Thankfully it went back together and is working.

And the remainder of 2022?

As I mentioned earlier I’m hoping to travel to the Daintree region later this year.

Will I make it? Hopefully, but if I could predict the future I’d be making millions each week in lotto.

I am also hoping to get away for a few overnight trips, if for no other reason than to get away from the house and enjoy the great outdoors for a few hours.

Will it happen? Only time will tell…
